The Nutrition Specialist reports to the Chief of UNICEF Field office in Bertoua. She/he is expected to work closely with the Nutrition Officer in Bertoua and receive technical guidance from the Chief of Nutrition based in Yaoundé. She/he is responsible for the development, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Nutrition programme within the Bertoua field Office. Accountable for effective technical and programme support to facilitate the application and adaptation of UNICEF policies and strategies to achieve strategic priorities and objectives and expansion of UNICEF assisted Nutrition interventions in the East and Adamawa regions.

How can you make a difference?

Programme development and planning
Timely sectoral analysis, input and support contribute to the Situation Analysis and its periodic update for effective project planning, development and management. Research and report on trends in Nutrition, for use in programme development, management, monitoring, and evaluation.
Work plan and objectives are strategically established, implementation support is effectively provided, and planned results are timely delivered through application of technical expertise.
Contribute to the development/establishment of Nutrition-related outcome and output results, as well as related strategies, through analysis of Nutrition sector needs and priorities.
Provide technical and administrative support throughout all stages of programming processes by executing/administering a variety of technical programme transactions, preparing materials/documentations, complying with organizational processes and management systems, to support progress towards the Nutrition-related outcome and/or output results in the Country Programme.
Prepare technical reports and inputs for programme preparation and documentation, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and relevance of information.
2. Programme management, monitoring and delivery of results

Provide qualitative technical contributions to the development and implementation of multi-sectorial Nutrition strategies and approaches through participation and collaboration with internal and external partnership.
Monitor and evaluate project implementation progress for adjustment, acceleration and improvement of program delivery and sustainability.
Work collaboratively with internal and external colleagues and partners to collect/analyze/ share information on implementation issues, provide solutions on routine programme implementation and alert appropriate officials and stakeholders for higher-level interventions and/or decisions. Keep record of reports and assessments for easy reference and/or to capture and institutionalize lessons learned.
Participate in monitoring and evaluation exercises, programme reviews and annual sectoral reviews with government and other counterparts and prepare reports on results for required action/interventions at the higher level of program management.
Monitor and report on the use of sectoral programme resources (financial, administrative and other assets), verify compliance with approved allocations, organizational rules, regulations/procedures and donor commitments, standards of accountability and integrity. Report on issues identified to enable timely resolution by management/stakeholders.
Prepare sectoral progress reports for management, donors and partners.
3. Technical and operational support for programme implementation

Provide technical and operational support to government counterparts, NGO partners, UN system partners and other country office partners/donors on the application and understanding of UNICEF policies, strategies, processes and best practices in NUTRITION, to support programme implementation.
4. Humanitarian Nutrition preparedness and response

Maintain emergency nutrition preparedness and emergency nutrition responses with effective coordination;
Study and fully understand UNICEF’s procedures for responding in an emergency.
Take up support roles in an emergency response and early recovery, as and when the need arises.
5. Networking and partnership building

Build and Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external counterparts for advocacy, technical coordination, information sharing and knowledge networking.
Draft communication and information materials for Nutrition programme advocacy to promote awareness, establish partnership/alliances and support fund-raising for Nutrition.
Research information on potential donors and prepare resource mobilization materials and briefs for fund raising and partnership development purposes
6. Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building

Assist in the development, implementation, monitoring and documentation of Nutrition action research and innovation (technical or systems).
Assist in the preparation of learning/knowledge products, covering innovative approaches and good practices, to support overall Nutrition sector development.
Assist in creating and delivering learning opportunities for UNICEF Nutrition staff, to ensure our sector capacity remains up-to-date with latest developments.
Participate as resource person in capacity building initiatives to enhance the competencies of clients/stakeholders.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in nutrition, public health, public health nutrition and biological sciences.*A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in nutrition, public health, public health nutrition or nutrition in Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
Fluency in French and working knowledge of English are required. Additional language(s) will be an asset
